HUNGER PROGRAM
Since 2001, the St. Maurice Hunger Program through its chairman Mr. Dallar Rung and project leader Lisa Kubris, has extended financial help to the Philippine Dentists' Development Cooperative or its Pediatric Dentistry Center (PDC). With this aid from the St. Maurice Parish of Florida, USA, the Pediatric Dentistry Center has reached hundreds of indigent children by way of improving their oral health and nutrition status. This program is called "Super Ngipin Super Kalusugan" (Super Teeth, Super Health) - an integrated Oral Health and Nutrition Program. Alongside the Philippine Pediatric Dental Society Inc., the PDC has conducted outreach programs where nutritious food packs which are healthy for the child's teeth such as milk, sandwiches, fruits and cereals are distributed to the beneficiaries.
At the PDC, disadvantaged children who are brought by well-motivated mothers go through a feeding program; this, only after having undergone a comprehensive oral rehabilitation program. The PDC considers this to be a part of our efforts to educate mothers on their role and responsibility in taking care of their children's teeth. We go by the dictum: good oral health translates to sound nutrition and vice versa, thus improving the child's quality of life that is free from dental pain and infection and malnutrition.
The Philippine Dentists' Development Cooperative, the Pediatric Dentistry Center and the Philippine Pediatric Dental Society Inc. express their sincere gratitude to St. Maurice Hunger Program.
